Repeat Rochester DWI Offender Avoids Prison
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man with a history of drunk driving offenses is being given another chance to stay out of prison.
27-year-old Jacob Janet was sentenced Thursday afternoon on two recent felony DWI convictions. One of the convictions stemmed from a traffic stop in August of last year, while the other was the result of a traffic stop in Rochester last December. Court documents show, in that case, a preliminary test put his blood-alcohol-concentration at .286 and a test performed at the Olmsted County jail measured it at .3, which is nearly 4 times the legal limit for driving.
For both convictions, Janet was given a stayed four-year prison sentence and was placed on probation for five years. He was also ordered to serve a 90-day jail sentence with work-release privileges, but was given credit for the 49 days he has already spent in jail.
Court records show his criminal history includes a conviction for felony criminal vehicular operation in 2017. The documents indicate he was driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his vehicle in High Forest Township in June 2016. A passenger in his vehicle was injured in the crash. He was sentenced to three years on probation in that case.
