Plea Deal For Rochester Carjacking includes Prison Sentence
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man who was accused of an armed carjacking two years ago was recently given a prison sentence for a conviction connected to the crime but it won't add to the time he is already serving behind bars for a previous drug conviction.
52-year-old Calvin Reavers was charged with first-degree aggravated robbery in 2022 after he was identified as the person who allegedly pointed a sawed-off shotgun at another man while robbing him of his car outside the victim's residence. According to court records, the victim told police he was sitting in the 2004 BMW when an SUV pulled in front of his car and Reavers got out of the SUV holding a shotgun and pointed the weapon at the him.
The criminal complaint says the victim reported that Reavers then punched him before pulling him out of the car. The man told police that Reavers ordered a woman in the SUV to drive the BMW while Reavers got back into the SUV and they both sped away.
The court document says Reavers and the woman were arrested the following day in Lake City after he was pulled over for a traffic violation and the officer involved in the stop discovered the BMW had been reported stolen in Rochester.
Under a plea agreement worked out between Reavers and prosecutors in both Wabasha and Olmsted counties in April, a simple robbery charge stemming from the alleged carjacking in Rochester was dismissed and Reavers entered a guilty plea to a felony theft charge involving the stolen vehicle in Wabasha County Court.
His sentence for the conviction was 21 months in prison, but he is being allowed to serve the time concurrently with a 107-month prison sentence he was given in April for an earlier drug conviction. Court records show he was convicted of first-degree drug charges stemming from a January 2021 drug raid by Rochester police that found him in possession of more than 2 ounces of methamphetamine.
Court records also show Reavers was given a five-year prison sentence in 2017. In that case, he was convicted of a felony drug charge and illegal possession of a firearm.
