At 2:58 a.m. this morning, I received a frightening text from the Byron School District: "Olmsted County Sheriff's Office is requesting your assistance in locating a missing child. Please see your email for specific details."
The follow-up email described the child’s appearance and location, noting that authorities were "deeply concerned about her condition due to the adverse weather conditions." Thankfully, the girl has been found safe, and now the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department has provided an update with more details.

Multi-Hour Search Effort for Missing Child in Byron
The Sheriff's Department says they responded to a call on January 8, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m. about "suspicious circumstances" in the city of Byron.
Their report says a resident got a notification from his doorbell camera at 12:05 a.m. The video showed the child "come to the resident's front door" and attempt to enter the house.
The Sheriff's Department says the young girl was not dressed for the weather.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and Byron Fire/First Responders immediately started searching the area to locate the child.
After a couple of hours, the juvenile was identified and is safe. It is unclear if she returned home on her own or if she was found by law enforcement.
