Minnesota County Sees 2 Fatal Crashes in Single Day
Both fatal crashes happened Friday in Anoka County. One involved an SUV and the other involved a mini-van and pick-up.
The first fatal crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on I 35E in Lino Lakes. The State Patrol crash report says an SUV was entering I-35E south at the Main St. interchange at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle left the ramp, went down an embankment, rolled several times and came to rest on its roof in the center median of the freeway. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Bryan Chue Fue Vang of Vadnais Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The report says he was buckled up and that alcohol was not involved in the deadly crash.
The second fatality happened shortly before 8 p.m. along a rural road north of Elk River. A news release from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says a minivan heading north on the two-lane road collided with a piece of equipment being towed by a southbound pick-up.
The minivan driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers in the van were transported to a local hospital.
The pick-up driver was not hurt. The names of the individuals involved in the crash and the medical conditions of the survivors have not been released. The crash investigation is ongoing.
