Funeral Set, GoFundMe Launched for Slain Northern Iowa Police Officer
Algona, IA (KROC-AM News)- A vigil and funeral arraignments have been set and a GoFundMe has been launched for a northern Iowa police officer who was killed in the line of duty last week.
Authorities say 33-year-old Officer Kevin Cram was fatally shot by 43-year-old Kyle Lou Ricke of Algona while serving an arrest warrant against Ricke Wednesday night.
Rickie fled the town of about 5,400 people north to southern Minnesota’s Brown County where he was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and is awaiting extradition back to Iowa.
A vigil for the father of three boys is happening Sunday evening in Algona. Attendees are asked to wear blue and begin gathering at 7:30 p.m.
A short program is set to begin at 8 p.m. Friends of the family of the 10-year law enforcement veteran have also launched a GoFundMe page.
The page says “Kevin enjoyed hunting and farming in his free time. Kevin was a respected and dedicated 10 year veteran of law enforcement.” Funds raised by the page will go to help with wife of five years Laura and the family. As of Sunday morning the page has raised over $9,000.
There will be public visitation for the fallen officer on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Algona Community School. His funeral is set for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the school and will be followed by a private graveside service.
