Eyota, MN (KROC-AM News)- The State Patrol has identified the Eyota man who was operating a tractor that crashed with a tanker truck in Olmsted County Wednesday evening.

First responders were dispatched to the crash around 8:20 p.m. on Hwy. 42 north of the County Rd. 9 roundabout north of Eyota. Dispatch reports indicated one of the vehicles had started on fire

Authorities determined the liquid carried by the tanker truck was not flammable or hazardous.

The crash caused the temporary closure of the northbound lane of Hwy. 42. Mayo One was requested at the crash scene.

Update: Eyota Tractor Operator Fighting For His Life Following Fiery Crash With Tanker Truck

On Thursday the State Patrol identified the tractor operator as 25-year-old Charles Jay Sachs. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with what are being described as life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver has been identified as 63-year-old Bruce Alan Byer of Noble, Oklahoma. He was not hurt. 

Both vehicles were traveling south when they collided near the highway’s intersection with Silver Creek Rd. Northeast, according to the state crash report

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, Eyota Fire Department, Dover Fire Department, Eyota Ambulance also responded to the fiery crash scene.
