A news release issued by the U.S. The Attorney's Office in Minnesota says the fire broke out around 11:30 on the morning of May 31.
Responding firefighters were told five people were inside of the burning home.
Baby Taken to Hospital After Being Rescued from Burning Eden Prairie Home
The fire allegedly set a townhouse in Eden Prairie. Upon arrival firefighters had encountered a man and three children outside of the burning house.
First responders learned an infant was still inside. Firefighters rescued the 9-month-old baby, who was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the fire.
Over the course of the fire investigation, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms learned that a man identified as 23-year-old Abdirahman Abdi Abdullahi sent a threatening message to the children’s mother that said “when I see u I’m smoke u.”
The news release also says the Eden Prairie man was on probation for violating a restraining order the mother had against him.
A review of security camera footage showed Abdullahi was at the home shortly before the fire carrying a red gas can, federal court documents say.
He’s then filmed putting the can in a rental car that was traced to him and driving away from the area, federal court documents say. Abdullahi was also seen filling the gas can at a nearby convenience store.
Abdullahi is charged with one count of arson causing injury. He made his first court appearance on Monday and was ordered to remain in custody.
His next court appearance is set for next week.
