Outta This World: Saturn To Lose It’s Rings In 2025, Check ‘Em Out Now!
If you are a fan of space, and the objects that are found within our solar system and other far-away galaxies, you might want to grab a telescope to check out a rare phenomenon that will occur in 2025. Saturn is getting ready to 'lose' its rings for some time in 2025. Your chance to view the planet 'ringed' and 'unringed' won't be long, but it only happens roughly every 30 years.
Earth.com lays out how the sixth planet from the sun will manage to drop its signature, majestic-looking, rings.
"A fast-approaching and significant cosmic event will soon dramatically alter our view of this magnificent planet. Come March 2025, Saturn’s majestic rings will become virtually invisible to Earth-based observers.
This phenomenon occurs due to the unique tilt of Saturn’s axis, which will position the rings edge-on to our line of sight."
That's right, in just 6 months Saturn will look ringless...for just a short time, then starting in November 2025 the planet will again 'lose' its rings for a short period of time.
"It’s a fleeting cosmic event that recurs every 29.5 years, which is how long it takes Saturn to orbit the Sun. After March 2025, Saturn’s axial tilt will bring the rings back into view, then vanish again in November 2025."
So if you are a fan of all things outer space, or you've got a little that dreams of being an astronaut, rent a telescope from the Great River Regional Library, and check out this fun space phenomenon.
