Marney Gellner, A Fox Sports North Sideline Reporter, has just made history as the first woman to call play-by-play for a regular season Twins game in Minnesota Twins history.

Marney Gellner, born in Langdon, North Dakota, says that she’s been around the Twins organization for such a long time, that it didn’t necessarily feel like it was a big deal. But after she was able to pause and think about the opportunity to fill in for play-by-play man Cory Provus on Bally Sports North, she acknowledged that she was proud to have the opportunity.

“I’m Super proud of it, and I’m just ready to just go ahead and get on with the game. Both things can be true. I appreciate this. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity. I’m super, super grateful. Thrilled. I don’t know all the adjectives I can use.”

Gellner has been a figure in Minnesota Media consistently since 2000 with what is now called Bally Sports North.

You may have heard Gellner as she has been the play-by-play voice of the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx for 14 seasons. She has also had many sideline gigs with the Minnesota Twins as well as other local franchises.

Gellner was the second woman to serve as a lead Television play-by-play broadcaster of a Timberwolves game in 2018.

She has called some of the games for the Twins Spring Training back in March of 2019 and said that the pacing is much different from calling basketball games.

What I think is extra special about Gellner, is that she has been a Twins fan since she was a kid. She said she has great memories of her family loading up their car and driving 8 hours to the Metrodome to watch a weekend's worth of Twins games.

Gellner says she was super excited when the Twins Senior Director of Broadcasting Andrew Halverson called her and asked her if she wanted to do it. “It came out of the blue. I had no idea it was even in the works,” she said.
