According to a recent study, gas stoves kill on average 19,000 people a year in the US. Most of those deaths are caused by the health risks from gas stoves, which "come from long-term, daily exposure to harmful indoor air pollution. Year after year, this exposure builds up and increases the risk of respiratory disease."

According to Yahoo! Life, states like New York have stopped allowing gas hookups in new buildings, and California is "considering a law that would require warning labels be printed on gas stoves."

Scientific American wrote in 2023 that gas stoves also emit unburned natural gas leaks from stoves—and this gas contains benzene, a known carcinogen.

So if you do have a gas stove in your home, how can you remain 'above' ground?

Yahoo! Life does have one tip for you when using a gas stove. When using a gas stove, always run a vent hood and open windows to help the harmful gases escape.

While you don't have to get rid of your gas stove immediately, they may become harder to come by due to the new health concerns.

Do you use a gas stove? Many cooks prefer to cook with gas versus electric stoves.
