(Exclusive) Lainey Wilson Says What Everyone Got Wrong About That Viral Butt Video
When you're a singer and a songwriter like Lainey Wilson, you want the most people to hear your music as possible and that's typically what you want to be known for. You try your hardest to go "viral" for all of the right reasons.
And while Lainey was getting recognized for her talent as a vocalist and songwriter, there was something else early on that was catching people's attention, too: Her butt.
Since then, it's been a topic of internet conversation, including people speculating on why the singer has since slimmed down quite a bit. But during a recent stop by the Taste of Country Studios the topic came up about the video and the country superstar cleared some things up.
Lainey Wilson Clears Up Misconceptions About How + Why She Lost Weight
Wilson was the latest guest on Taste of Country Nights On Demand, where she had a heart-to-heart with host Evan Paul.
We started talking about the viral butt video that pushed Wilson into the spotlight for a different reason than music.
One of the things that is noticeable about Wilson in the past year or so is her dramatic weight loss. It was time to dig in and see if losing of the weight was due to how she felt after people saw the viral butt video.
When asked that question, the "Hang Tight Honey" broke it down for us. "The thing is, that video that surfaced, that was a video of me six months prior, before it ever even came out."
The current ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year kept going with the sentiment. "So I had already, like, slimmed down some. Then everybody's like, 'aw she's losing weight 'cause y'all done bullied her.'"
Wilson was quick to clear that up.
"Actually, guess what, it's because I'm playing an hour and a half every night on stage, running up and down the stairs, busting my tail. That's why I'm trimming down," she tells us. "It's crazy, honestly, if you ain't got nothing better to do than sit around and talk about somebody's weight, it's weird."
Wilson got very serious, and wanted people to know that those are just internet trolls saying this stuff, not her real-life fans.
"I will tell you this, my fans, the people I've met along the way, they're not the people on the internet. They're not," she shared. "I can look at 'em and tell, they're not the ones saying hateful things to people. They're too busy."
