Most of us know someone who has been scammed in some way and I always say, don't trust any text, email, or even some phone calls.  Instead go right to the actual source as messages might not be what they seem.

Just recently another text scam was reported in Grand Marais, and it seems like almost weekly there are similar reports.  To help combat the scammers further the Duluth Police Department has issued some tips on Facebook:

My key takeaway is number three on the list, "Scammers pressure you to act immediately".  I've personally experienced that in a call before and even had a family member scammed by that tactic.  Of course, acknowledge the other tips and make a good choice, but remember that if it's that important to them, they can wait until you've verified the source.

Also keep in mind that you can help out others by reporting scam attempts to the Federal Trade Commission.
