Walz is 60 and was born in West Point, Nebraska, he currently lives at the governor's residence in St. Paul with his wife and two kids, before moving to St. Paul, Walz spent 20 years living in Mankato.
While Walz is running for VP, Minnesota Lieutenant Governor, Peggy Flanagan, will take over some of the day-to-day duties of governor, and if Walz is elected VP, she will become Minnesota's first female Governor and one of the youngest governors in the country.
