If You See Purple Paint In Minnesota, Turn Around Immediately
Have you ever heard about this? I never have but learned about it recently and think it serves as a great reminder or note to everyone, especially because Duluth is so big on the outdoors.
This pertains to the Purple Paint Law, which allows residents in certain states to paint their property lines with purple.
This is to stop people from trespassing on private property. As of 2024, this doesn't seem to be a law in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
However, some landowners may still do it for their own purposes or to mark their property line for another reason so it's good to be aware.
That's why, if you see purple paint out and about, whether hiking or hunting, you should turn around and leave the area immediately! It's possible you're trespassing on private property.

This is a great reminder considering so many Northlanders love to hunt and fish and hike throughout the great outdoors. It's what Duluth is known for after all!
It could also be that if you see purple paint on someone's property, it means something else considering this isn't an official law in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
However, it's best to err on the side of caution if you aren't sure. There are plenty of places to take part in outdoor recreation without trespassing.
