Orr, MN (MinnesotaNow) - Authorities are investigating a deadly snowmobile crash in northeastern Minnesota.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says it received a 911 call concerning the fatal incident shortly before 12:30 PM on Tuesday. It occurred along the Arrowhead Snowmobile Trail near Orr.

Two Snowmobiles Collide

The Sheriff's office indicated that the 911 caller reported to snowmobiles had collided on the trail in the driver of one of the snowmobiles had been thrown off and was unresponsive. First responders from multiple agencies responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the snowmobiler was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name has not been released, but a news release states that he was a 57-year-old man from the southern Twin Cities area.

Victim Ejected

The preliminary investigation into the crash found that the 2 snowmobiles were traveling in opposite directions and collided in a "side swiped fashion" on a curve in the trail. The man killed in the crash lost control and was ejected when his snowmobile rolled several times.

The Sheriff's Office reported the operator of the other snowmobile was not injured.
