Brooklyn Center, MN (KROC-AM News) - A law enforcement standoff in Brooklyn Center that began with a report of a domestic disturbance ended in an officer-involved shooting late Wednesday night.

According to a statement from the Brooklyn Center Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home in the Minneapolis suburb just before 10:30 p.m. The initial call reported a domestic disturbance, and a second caller from the residence indicated that someone inside the home was armed with knives.

Crisis negotiators were requested after officers arrived at the scene. During negotiations, police say an adult male—after being informed he was under arrest—exited the home wielding a chainsaw.

Officer Involved Shooting Followed Report of Domestic Disturbance and Man Armed With Knives

Officers initially attempted to subdue the man using pepper balls and 40mm less-lethal rounds. According to the news release, "Brooklyn Center Police Officers ultimately discharged their firearms, striking the male." Officers immediately provided medical aid, and the man was transported to a hospital, where he was last reported in stable condition.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the use-of-force incident. As per standard protocol, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.

The shooting follows a deadly officer-involved incident Tuesday night in Freeborn County, where deputies fatally shot a man at a rural property near Albert Lea. Investigators also discovered the body of a woman at the scene who apparently died before authorities arrived in response to a domestic disturbance call.
