February 3, 1959 - the day the music died.  Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens die in a plane crash in Iowa.

A very talented song writer with a string of hits, Matraca Berg, was born February 3, 1964 in Nashville.  Berg wrote a host of country hits, among them being "Strawberry Wine" recorded by Deana Carter; "Wild Angels" by Martina McBride; and "You and Tequila" recorded by Kenny Chesney.

Featuring numerous hits for George Strait, "I Cross My Heart", "Heartland" and others, in 1993 the "Pure Country" soundtrack received double-platinum status.

And in 2009, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" earns gold single status for Darius Rucker.
