If you heard cheers and applause throughout Minnesota today, it may have been because of the latest baby announcement in our state.  And it's a BIG one!  I haven't heard if a baby shower is happening at all but if you were planning on buying a gift, you'll need to have it delivered to Como Park Zoo & Conservatory.

A huge announcement was displayed on the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory website with photos of the brand new baby foal to mom, "Minnie". The new baby was born at some point overnight from May 23rd into May 24th.  When the team arrived this morning to work at the zoo, they saw the new baby already walking strong and following closely to mom, Minnie.

If you'd like to see the new baby, you can visit Como Park Zoo & Conservatory and go to the outdoor Zebra and Kudu exhibit.  The animals will be available daily from 10am-6pm.

How big is a baby zebra when it is born?

I did a little research at LiveSciend.com and found out that when a baby zebra, also known as a foal, is born, it weighs around 55 to 88 pounds.  If you go to visit the new baby, you may that the stripes are more of a brown shade at the moment. Those stripes will start to turn towards the traditional black tone at some point between 9 to 18 months.
