3 of the ‘101 Best Burgers in U.S.’ Are Here in Minnesota
Hamburgers have come a long way from their humble start as those dried out things dad used to grill out in the backyard, and a new list of the 101 best burgers in the country include three right here in Minnesota.
Like most of us here in the good 'ol US of A, I've always loved a good hamburger. And, according to the History Channel, we're not alone, either. They say the hamburger is one of the world’s most popular foods, with more than 40 billion served up annually in the United States alone.
And thanks to some incredible work by some of the world's best chefs, the 'plain old hamburger' doesn't really exist anymore-- because today's gourmet hamburgers are works of art. In fact, The Daily Meal has just put together a list of the 101 Best Burgers In America, and you can sink your teeth into three of them right here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
So which Minnesota burgers are some of the best in the country? Well, at #75 on the list is the Mogul Burger at Wendy's House of Soul in Minneapolis. The site says the Mogul is "a half-pound deep-fried hamburger placed in a gluten-free wrap and filled with cheese, pepper, onion and turkey bacon."
The next Minnesota entry on the list is one I've had and totally agree with: The Juicy Lucy at Matt's Bar in Minneapolis. Yes, the famous Minnesota-born burger with the cheddar cheese INSIDE is officially one of the 20 best burgers in the country. "As the story goes, the famous Juicy Lucy was created after a local customer exclaimed 'that’s one juicy Lucy!' after biting into a custom hamburger with two hamburger patties and a slice of cheese in the middle," the site said. (And, of course, you can also get a Juicy Lucy at the 5-8 Club in Minneapolis, who also claims THEY invented the famous Minnesota burger.)
The top Minnesota burger on the list, though? It's the Nookie Supreme Burger at The Nook in St. Paul. Just what makes this burger rank so high on the list? Well, it's because the Nookie Supreme is "a double-decker cheeseburger with lettuce, special sauce and three (yes, three) layers of fresh-baked bun," the Daily Meal says. (You can check their entire list HERE.)
