Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Minnesota Wild have traded defense man Mike Reilly to the Montreal Canadians for a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Reilly has played in a career-high 38 games so far this season for the Wild, tallying two goals and eight assist. The former University of Minnesota star made his debut with the Wild back in 2016.

The Wild have Jonas Brodin due back for tomorrow’s game against the St. Louis Blues while they have Nate Prosser, Gustav Olofsson and rookie Nick Seeler also in the mix for the third pair on the blue line, making Reilly expendable. He signed with the Wild in 2015.

It is believed the Wild wanted to make room to eventually call up prospect Luke Kunin and sign prospect Jordan Greenway, who was just on the ice for the U.S Olympic team.
