Twin Cities (KROC AM News) – Hundreds of nurses will be walking the picket line instead of working Monday at five Twin Cities hospitals.

The Minnesota Nurses Association called the strike after talks on Friday failed to produce a new labor contract with Allina Health.

Allina has put information on its website indicating the strike will affect its Abbott Northwestern, Mercy, United and Unity hospitals, as well as the Phillips Eye Institute. The walkout will not affect any of Allina’s clinic or urgent care locations. Allina says it is prepared for the strike.

Allina says  “ Our goal is to return to the bargaining table and continue negotiating in good faith to come to an agreement that includes a fair health plan transition. Allina Health is ready to provide care to our patients during the strike. All of our hospitals will continue to be staffed with highly qualified, licensed and experienced registered nurses who will provide safe, quality care in the event of a strike.”

The nurses walked off the job for one week in June. This one is described as open-ended.  The union represents 4,800 nurses. The main sticking point is health insurance.
