Wabasha, MN (KROC AM News) - The cold weather may have played a role in a traffic detour in Wabasha Wednesday night.

MnDOT says traffic was prevented from using the Mississippi River bridge to go to Wisconsin around 7:30 PM.

Spokesman Mike Dougherty says a train had a mechanical issue while going through Nelson on the Wisconsin side of the river and blocked the roadway.

Dougherty says about 30 - 40 vehicles that were headed to Nelson were forced to turn around and return to Minnesota. Dougherty says the crossing was blocked for about 30 - 45 minutes.

The nearest crossings for Minnesota motorists who wanted to get across the river were in Red Wing and Winona.
