St. Joseph, MN (KROC-AM News) - An overflow crowd is expected at a memorial service Sunday morning for Jacob Wetterling.

It will take place in the Field House at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph beginning at 10 a.m.  Jacob’s family organized the service after the remains of the 11-year-old boy were recovered from a farm field in a rural Paynesville on September 1st.

The man responsible for his death, 53-year-old Danny Heinrichs, brought authorities to the site after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors that led to a guilty plea to a child pornography charge and a public confession to the abduction, sexual assault, and murder of Jacob on October 22, 1989.

Governor Mark Dayton, meanwhile, has issued a proclamation declaring October 22 as Jacob’s Day in Minnesota.
