Super Bowl LVII (that's 57 if you don't speak Roman Numerals) is set for Sunday in Arizona and will likely feature several new commercials. None of them, though, will be as good as this one, which was produced right here in Minnesota.

After sitting the past few years out, some big-name advertisers are back with brand-new commercials that will air during this year's Super Bowl. Fox, the network broadcasting the festivities this year says it has sold out all its inventory during the Big Game, and for a LOT of money, too. In fact, a few prime 30-second commercials this year are going for more than $7 million dollars.

And those high fees mean Fox should cash in big time with the big game. Variety noted that NBC, which aired Super Bowl LVI last year, made nearly $578.4 million from in-game commercials alone in 2022. So, yeah, the fees are big. Let's hope the entertainment factor is equally big.

If you want a sneak peek, some advertisers have already put their commercials online. Some look kind of clever, though none of them seem as good as this classic Super Bowl commercial that's still my favorite-- and it's one that was produced right here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

The commercial I'm talking about is now over 20 years old (23, in fact.) It made its debut during Super Bowl XXXIV, back in January of 2000. That was the year the Rams were also involved (they beat the Titans), and it was also the year a lot of 'dot com' companies bought commercials during the Big Game. One of them was the firm, Electronic Data Systems, or EDS. Their commercial, ‘Cat Herders’, was described by an advertising trade magazine like this:

“Cowboys talk about their life herding cats, describing the challenges of taking domesticated kitties (as opposed to longhorns) through the open country to their destination at the ranch.”

If you have cats, like we do, you'll no doubt get a kick out it. And, it's extra cool in that it was produced right here in the North Star State by a Minnesota firm, too– at the ad agency, Fallon, in Minneapolis.
