If you visit the Apache Mall, the change is so subtle you might miss it. General Growth Properties is off most of the signage, and the big screen in the Food Court has a different name for a contact. So far, that's it. But will that be all?

The new owners didn't get back to me by deadline, but here's what I was able to learn. The Apache Mall, previously owned by General Growth Properties, is now owned by Brookfield Properties - Retail.  Brookfield Properties didn't buy just the Apache Mall, tho. In a $9,250,000,000 deal, they acquired General Growth Properties. That includes four malls/shopping centers in Minnesota.

  • Apache Mall, Rochester
  • Crossroads Center, St. Cloud
  • Ridgedale Center, Minnetonka
  • River Hills Mall, Mankato

This gives 'em 163 shopping centers in 41 states. Yowsa.

Any major changes planned? No one at the Apache Mall could comment, and without hearing from Brookfield I'll have to wait 'til later to fill you in on changes. One thing I know we're all hoping...a new owner will find ways to fill those empty stores!
