One in five people die on Minnesota roads because of this...

The seemingly small offense, speeding!! Believe it or not, speeding is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle deaths in Minnesota. A scary 92 people died in speed-related crashes last year. That's a nearly 20% jump from 2015, when 78 fatalities were recorded.

The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is particularly dangerous, now infamously known as the “100 Deadliest Days” on the road.

Starting TODAY (Friday), more cops will be on Minnesota roads looking for people speeding.

I'm not going to lie, I was a TERRIBLE driver (yes, was). When I first got my license, I thought I was invincible. I drove fast, rolled through stop signs and didn't pay attention. I was at fault for two minor car accidents, had numerous speeding tickets and several stop sign violations. For the record, I haven't been pulled over in about 7 years. Life is too precious! Even if you think you are the best driver, you have to be on the lookout for others.

What will a speeding ticket cost you?

  • 10 mph over the speed limit - $110 plus court costs
  • 20 or more mph over limit - Fines double
  • Work zone violation - Minimum $300
  • More than 100 mph - Buh-bye license for six months
