Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police are reporting a lucky break in an investigation of a man described as a “significant narcotics dealer.”

Police Captain John Sherwin says a Rochester man called police after a package was delivered to his residence near the intersection of North Broadway and 8th Street. The man was suspicious because it was addressed to a person who is deceased and two men approached him asking for the package, which police later discovered contained two pounds of methamphetamine.

Captain Sherwin says another person recognized one of the men who visited the home as 47-year-old Dwight Barnes, who was later picked up at his worksite in Stewartville and is being held on two first-degree drug charges. Sherwin says Barnes had been the target of an investigation by the Criminal Interdiction Unit for several months.

Barnes was one of 18 people prosecuted on federal drug charges stemming from a multi-agency investigation in 2012 called Operation Heatwave that targeted individuals believed to be involved in the sale and distribution of marijuana, crack cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine in and around Rochester.
