Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Local prosecutors have been given the green light to proceed with their case against a Stewartville man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl. After reviewing the results of a psychological evaluation, Olmsted County Judge Lisa Hayne has found Majed Ijong competent to stand trial on multiple first and second-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.

The criminal complaint against the 25-year-old man alleges the sexual abuse began last September at the Stewartville home Ijong shared with the victim and the victim's mother. Investigators became aware of the alleged abuse in mid-October and Ijong left the state before he could be taken into custody. They later learned he had traveled to Las Vegas in the company of the girl’s mother and Ijong was eventually apprehended in California.

Ijong was also charged with felony assault for allegedly punching an Olmsted County Detention Officer in the face back in March. The injured officer ended up with a half dozen stitches to repair a wound caused by the inmate's punch.

Ijong is currently scheduled to appear in court for a plea hearing the afternoon of October 5th. In the meantime, he remains jailed on $500,000 bail.
