The #2 seeded Spring Grove Lions were in for a fight against the #11 seeded Lyle Pacelli Athletics at the Mayo Civic Auditorium, but the combination of size and composure of the Lions earned them the 68-60 win.

L/P came flying out of the gates, hitting 3 after 3 to keep pace and eventually take the lead on the Lions in the first half. LP was led by Frederico Pulgarin and Trinity Anderson who did a great job of pushing the ball in transition and getting open looks for their squad.

The Lions struggled to stop the high-flying offense of L/P, but they never let the game get away. Late in the first half, Spring Grove found their groove and got some great play from Ethan Matzke and Adin Solum to help them take a 34-31 lead with 11.8 seconds to go. Then, Anderson banked in a corner 3 for L/P and all the sudden the momentum was with L/P tied at 34 at the break.

L/P came flying out of the gate in the second half to take a lead, but then Alex Folz took over. He hit five 3's in the game and did a great job of getting his teammates in the right spot.

Folz big-game shots fell and the Lions were able to hold off L/P, who struggled to hit from deep late in the game.

Folz finished with 17, Matzke 13, Sam Sanness 12, Solum 11 and Elton 9. Pulgarin who left with a knee injury finished with 12 for L/P. Anderson with 12, Jed Nelson with 11, Joesph Mass and Zach Bollingberg with 10 each.

Spring Grove will battle Rushford-Peterson in a familiar matchup for the Section Championship Saturday night at 5pm.
