While the National Weather Service La Crosse office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 3 Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday, there looks to be an even bigger snowstorm set to hit southeast Minnesota Saturday into Sunday.

The NWS Winter Weather Advisory set to start Thursday afternoon could make things tricky across our neck of the woods, with some mixed precipitation tossed in the forecast as well.

"Snow mixing with freezing drizzle expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a glaze are expected, resulting in possibly difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Friday," the advisory notes.

But wait, there's more! When checking out the extended forecast for Saturday, it looks like there could be a bigger storm heading our way that could drop way more snow on us.

Here's the NWS Saturday forecast: "Snow likely after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. East wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible," the forecast says.

And Saturday night looks like this: "Snow before 8pm, then rain and snow between 8pm and 10pm, then snow after 10pm. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 22. Breezy, with an east wind 8 to 18 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible," the forecast notes.
If I'm doing my math correctly, that adds up to somewhere near 5 to 9 inches of snow that could be on the ground by Sunday morning! I'm guessing the forecast could change as we get closer to the weekend, but you might want to get those shovels ready or make sure that snow blower starts when you get home later today!
