As Rochester prepares for some of the coldest days in memory, the Salvation Army and others are preparing, too.

First, the Rochester Salvation Army Winter Warming Center will be open today (the 29th) and tomorrow (the 30th) non-stop. Rebecca Snap, Director of Community Engagement for the Salvation Army, says,

Anyone needing a place to escape the frigid cold will be welcome at our 20 NE First Avenue Community Center location at any time to stay out of these dangerous temperatures when other public spaces are closed

This year the Winter Warming Center has served over 200 people (68 unduplicated). Snap says this "indicates the need for refuge may be growing compared to last year." That's a scary thought, seeing a population in need grow.

If you'd like to volunteer, contact Alex at 507-288-3663 or go to RochesterSA.org.

If you're in or near Kasson, Becky's Community Closet, 19 Main Street West in Kasson, has opened as a warming center for those in the area that are in need of a warm place to go.  Find out more by clicking HERE.
