The #1 seeded Rushford-Peterson Trojans played a tough defensive game that made it difficult for the #2 seeded Spring Grove Lions to get their offense going in the Section 1A Title game at the Mayo Civic Auditorium, which saw the Trojans get the win 66-30.

Ben Ansell was the scoring leader yet again for the Trojans as he found easy look, after easy look, right by the rim. The senior had 31 points, while Jacob Paulson added in seven points, seven rebounds, nine assists and five steals.

The Lions struggled from the field early, as the Trojans were able to go on an 11-5 run to start the game. The quick lead was headed by Ansell and 3-point shots made by Luke O'Hare and Paulson.

The Trojans went on an 8-0 to end the half with a 33-16 lead.

The Lions defense we good on the perimeter, but the Trojans were able to break it down and find Ansell in the post for multiple opportunities, and that continued to help R-P build the lead.

The Trojans defense was even tough on the Lions in the second half, holding them to a mear 14 points, in the 66-30 win. Ethan Matzke was a bright spot for Spring Grove, with his 12 points, he led the Lions in scoring.

The Trojans opened the second half on a 7-2 run and the Lions could never recover.

With the win, Rushford-Peterson advances to the Class A State Tournament in the Cities. they will play the #3 seed Cass Lake-Bena their first game Thursday at Williams Arena. Tip-off is set for 5pm.
