Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - Authorities are trying to locate a Rochester man who is accused of ripping off a Good Samaritan who offered him a place to stay after he lost his home.

Being sought on identity theft and other charges is 32-year-old Kody Drost.

The criminal complaint says the woman allowed Drost and his wife to stay in the basement of her rural Rochester home. The woman told investigators “she wished to help them until they could get back on their feet.” That was last September.

The woman later began noticing cash and gift cards in her home were disappearing. Acting on her suspicions, the woman checked the room Drost had been using and found two credit cards in her name. Investigators say they later determined Drost had opened the cards in the woman’s name.

It was also learned the cards had been used to make $2,000 in charges at Rochester businesses between last September and January.
