Washington, D.C. (KROC-AM News) - The median household income in Olmsted County rose nearly 4 ½ percent last year.

The latest estimates from the U.S. Census show it climbed from just over $69,300 to over $72,300 in 2017. Statewide, the median household income was estimated at just under $65,700, which was up almost 4-percent when compared to the 2016 estimate.

While Olmsted County’s median income was well above the statewide average, Minnesota’s highest median incomes were found in the outer-ring suburbs of the Twin Cities, where both Scott and Carver Counties had estimated median household incomes above $93,000. Nationally, the median household income grew 4.1-percent to about $57,650.

At the other end of the economic spectrum, the Census estimates 6.6-percent of Minnesotans lived in households with incomes below the poverty line in 2017. That number is down 3-tenths of a percent from 2016. In Olmsted County, the Census reports show a slight increase in households living in poverty. The estimate grew a tenth of a point last year to 5.7-percent.
