Well it's not 1991 and for many, we can be thankful for that, minus that whole Minnesota has a championship in baseball thing. That's a whole 'nother story. The National Weather Service just drop this 'bombshell', sort of. Plowable Snow next week...well maybe. Ain't the weather in Minnesota grand?

In today's National Weather Service area forecast discussion the NWS is looking towards the future weather that 'could' develop over the next several days and they are looking at the possibility of enough moisture and cold enough air that we could have ourselves a white Election Day.

"At this time, the ECMWF and GFS lift the lift the low pressure system into Southern Wisconsin Tuesday morning. This track would keep the bulk of the precipitation to the east and south of the forecast area. However, we will have to closely watch the track of this system and its potential for snow." - National Weather Service Twin Cities

Earlier versions of this discussion point to the possibility of plenty of snow landing somewhere.

"As we go into next week, that`s when things could get interesting. The flow across North America will become more amplified as a powerful jet comes off the Pacific and into the Rockies, helping to deepen the long wave trough. At some point during the first half of the week, the GFS/ECMWF/Canadian all kick a powerful storm system out of the trough over the southern Plains and move it toward the Great Lakes. As one would expect 7-9 days out though, the model spread is rather large." - National Weather Service Twin Cities

Now the NWS in LaCrosse has been just as vague and has waffled throughout the day and models as to what can be expected next week. The most recent discussion states:

"Considerable uncertainty in the forecast for early next week, but one thing is looking more certain, it`s looking colder. There is the potential for a stronger system to impact portions of the Upper Mississippi River Valley with rain or snow and potentially windy conditions. Keep a close eye on this timeframe as we draw closer to next week." - National Weather Service LaCrosse, WI

It is an inevitable thing, snow. It makes living in a state with 4 discernable seasons pretty cool. It's just a maybe when the snow does come as to the when, what, and how much but it's better to be thinking ahead than have our heads in the sand.

Plus the idea of some snow in the forecast gives me a reason to make sure the snowmobile is ready to go.

The one thing you can bet on for sure, those political ads will be finally done Wednesday morning! AMEN!
