St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is reporting that 909 motorists were ticketed for distracted driving during a statewide enforcement campaign last week.

More than 300 local law enforcement agencies joined the State Patrol in the six-day crackdown on texting while driving and other distracting activities behind the wheel.

In one case, a 66-year-old man was ticketed after he was spotted weaving into oncoming traffic while reading a paper. Another traffic stop involved a 38-year-old man who was steering with his knees while doing long-hand math on a piece of paper.

A similar enforcement campaign, conducted over a 10 day period last year, resulted in 550 citations. The Public Safety Department also notes there were a total of about 3,200 tickets issued for texting while driving in Minnesota last year.
