It was raining, it was dark and at the end of it my truck was covered in ice. What happened?!? Well it starts with a pit stop at a gas station that wasn't open and a semi stuck in the middle of the road.

4:15 a.m. - I exited my home with my coffee in hand. I stepped on my back porch and it was covered in ice. Knowing my commute was going to take longer this morning, I did not salt it and proceed to slide my feet down the stairs toward the garage. After I finally got to my vehicle, I was on my way.

4:20 a.m. - The rain started to fall down harder and making it difficult to see, so I did the obvious and ran my windshield wipers. After a couple of swipes I noticed that the rain was actually freezing to my windshield.

4:21 a.m. - I quick pulled into a gas station and fired up the defrost (I do not know why I didn't have it on right away). I exited my truck and almost fell onto the ground of the parking lot. Yep, the road were just as slick as the parking lot, I was prepared for the worst. The gas station hadn't quite opened up yet, so it was just me and the semi that was pulled over on Hwy 63. I got the windshield scraped and headed back on my way.

4:37 a.m. - I was just getting into Racine, and I noticed some semi-truck had hazard lights blinking. As I continued south, I noticed it wasn't pulled over, but it was parked at an angle covering up a lane and a half of traffic. It was nearing an important commute time and cars were coming from the other direction. I made the decision to pass the semi on the half of lane left. It was a success, but scary since the roads were icy. (Also, the semi-truck had an Indiana licenses plate, I am assuming the driver wasn't sure how the ice would effect his/her traveling).

4:53 a.m. - I am almost to Spring Valley. As I slow down to stop at the T of Hwy 16 and Hwy 63, I notice my truck stops perfectly with no issues. It was almost as if the rain was not freezing yet. YES!

4:56 a.m. I make it to Spring Valley with no issues, and actually am able to speed up after going through town. Road conditions are fine. LET'S GO!

5:15 a.m. - Road conditions are not fantastic anymore, but still okay. Roads are starting to freeze. Yep, schools are going to be delayed/canceled. I need to be ready. It is a big day with a busy morning ahead. I begin to game plan in my head what I need to do.

5:23 a.m. - I started to go down the hill that is Hwy 16 before reaching Preston. My speed is increasing, and knowing the roads are slick I have to make a decision. Do I try to slow down and see if the icy sends me into the guard rail, or do I let it ride all the way down the hill. I let it ride and speed reaching an amount I am not willing to put online....I safely reach the bottom of the hill.

5:28 a.m. - I reach the studios parking lot safely. I get out of my truck, I step in a puddle. Argh. I move my truck away from puddle. I exit truck again and slip and fall. Dang it.
