Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Minnesota's unadjusted job count passed the 3 million mark in June for the first time every, according to a press release from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

The state added 4,400 jobs in June on a seasonally adjusted basis and has gained over 77,000 jobs in the past year. That is the biggest over-the-year job gain since May 1998, and also brings up Minnesota's job growth 2.6 percent over the past year, while the national job growth rate is 1.5 percent.

“The labor market continues to put up impressive numbers, with Minnesota adding 314,261 jobs since the recession ended eight years ago in June,” said DEED Commissioner Shawntera Hardy. “All 11 of the state’s industrial sectors have gained jobs in the past year, and nine of the 11 are growing faster than nationally.”

Leisure and hospitality was the leader in all sectors in June with 4,500 new jobs. Other sectors with positive gains include professional and business services (up 2,300), manufacturing (up 2,100), government (up 1,500) and construction (up 900).

Sectors that lost jobs in June include education and health services, other services, financial activities, trade, transportation and utilities, information and logging and mining.

Over the past year, Education and health services led all sectors with over 24,000 new jobs, followed by professional and business services, which added 10,225.

Government was up 9,215, leisure and hospitality was up 8,429, construction was up 8,022, trade, transportation and utilities was up 7,293, manufacturing was up 4,170, other services was up 2,558, financial activities was up 1,250, information was up 798 and logging and mining was up 728.

All Metropolitan regions gained jobs over the past year, but Rochester was the smallest at 1.9 percent increase. Minneapolis-St. Paul led the way at 3.3 percent, followed by Duluth-Superior MSA at 2.8, St. Cloud MSA at 2.6 and Mankato at 2.
