The LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals jumped out to a big lead early and were able to hold off a late push from the Rushford-Peterson Trojans to get a 73-63 win Monday night.

The Cardinals were led on the inside by Lauren Helgeson, who finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Helgeson was a force to start the game and was a big reason the Cardinals jumped out to a 21-4 lead early in the game. They dominated the glass and were making shots early.

Once LeRoy-Ostrander established the lead, the Trojans and Cardinals would trade buckets for the majority of the game. Rushford-Peterson would cut the lead down to 10, and then LeRoy-Ostrander would increase the lead back up to the 12-14 point range, but when the Trojans started to dial up the pressure the tides started to turn.

It was 43-32 at the break, but late in the half the Trojans made their push, getting some big plays from Megan Oian and Abbey Hoegh, the Trojans were able to cut the lead down to five, 65-60, with 3:34 to go.

The Cardinals were able to get to the free-throw line late, and force some tough shots for Rushford-Peterson, holding them to just three points in the final 3 minutes, getting the 73-63 win.

Hoegh finished with 29 points to lead the Trojans, while Lauren Lawston, Kjersta Hinz and Megan Oian finished with 9. Helgeson led the way with 24 for the Cardinals, while Haley Hungerholt chipped in 14 and Emily Hofner had 12 in the win.
