As if Lake Pepin wasn't already a popular destination this summer...

When you live in Minnesota, you know you don't have to drive far to reach one of it's 10,000 lakes. They come in all shapes and sizes and you can always come up with fun things to do once you reach your destination. Well I'm telling you right now that you might want to ditch your usual watering hole and make a trip to Lake Pepin instead because on Saturday August 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lake City, MN, will host the first ever “Float-A-Palozza’!

What's this all about? It's just what it sounds like where it's an excuse for people who don't own boats to get out on the lake for a day of fun and float on the water. To be more specific, the Mayor of Lake City, Mark Nichols, would love to make this "The world's largest Lily Pad event!"

In case you're in the dark on what Lily Pads are, they're basically giant mats you lay across the water for floating and other activities (see below). They're pretty sweet!

If you have your own, great! Be sure and bring it. But if you don't and want this to be your excuse to buy a Lily Pad of your own to have for the event, the Lake City Chamber has 100 available, with a 40% discount off of retail which will save you some big bucks! If you need a closer look at them you can also go HERE.

To enter for a chance to win a Lily Pad, find the Lake City Chamber on FaceBook HERE.

Of course there will be plenty of other things to do that day besides just enjoying your afternoon on the water. They plan to have a kids DJ, police cars, fire trucks and ambulances, a bounce house/obstacle course and drawings for numerous prizes. Plus food trucks and homemade ice cream sandwiches will also be on site from 11 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

To reserve your Lily Pad, you can contact the Chamber of Commerce at chamberevents@lakecity.org<mailto:chamberevents@lakecity.org> or call 651 345-4123. All Lily Pads purchased must be picked up by August 18.
