Motorist that have driven in Mower County near Adams have noticed that the Highway 56 detour was lifted, but resurfacing work will continue on I-90 to Taopi.

Highway 56 in Adams is scheduled to reopen on Aug. 19 as the roadway reconstruction is completed, but travelers will still encounter construction, as paving work between Interstate 90 and Taopi will be started, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Traffic was detoured in Adams while the roadway was reconstructed and water, lighting and drainage utilities were replaced. Sidewalks, landscaping and ADA pedestrian ramps are also being upgraded.

Teh 16-mile resurfacing project along Highway 56 from I-90 south to Taopi is replacing old pavement and improving safety along the corridor. Mathy Construction is the prime contractor for the $5.2 million project.

A detour will be in place as follows:For eastbound Hwy 56 motorists will be: Mower County Road 5 south to Mower County Road 7 south to Mower County Road 6 east until it connects with Hwy 56 west of Le Roy. The detour for westbound Hwy 56 motorists will be: County Road 6 west to County Road 7 north to County Road 5 north where it connects with Hwy 56.
