Last week was all about the 'Minneapolis Miracle' and no one would blame you if you missed out on the news that the Federal government failed to fund itself through February 16. So what does that mean for us here in Minnesota? Here is a breakdown of some of the things that are affected by the shutdown.

The mail is still being delivered. So don't think you're going to get a break on playing those bills, because they will still arrive. If you or a relative are receiving social security those are still being processed too. A veteran? The VA is still up and running to serve you and your healthcare needs.

Airports are still operating, and air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration officials are still on the job. But you could still run into some delays if you’re traveling because “non-essential” employees will be furloughed.

You can also travel by train. Even though Amtrak depends on federal subsidies, it also gets revenue from ticket sales and has managed to stay open during past shutdowns.

So what's closed? The IRS is furloughing more than 85% of it's workforce. It's not known how this might affect those filing taxes and expecting a refund. Federal parks like the Mississippi National River & Recreation Area are closed to visitors during the shutdown. If you are going to be visiting a National Park, call ahead and see if they are open.
