Tuscaloosa, AL (KROC-AM NEWS) - Rochester’s Sam Macken had a hit and scored three runs Friday afternoon to help the top ranked University of Minnesota softball team open the NCAA tournament with an 11-3 win over Louisiana Tech at the Tuscaloosa Regional in Alabama. The Lourdes High School graduate got her hit in the first inning and also ended up with two walks in the victory.

The heart of the Gophers’ batting order was hot, with Maddie Houlihan and McKenna Partain each going 3 for 3 at the plate for a total of 8 RBI.

Amber Riser got the win for the Gophers, even though Sara Groenewegen was the starting pitcher. Riser, who is 14-0, had two strikeouts and allowed one run on only two hits.

The Gophers next game is set to start at 11:30 Saturday morning against Alabama.
