The Minnesota Correctional Facility-Faribault was under lockdown on Monday after a corrections officer was assaulted by an offender in a Monday morning incident that left four officers injured.

Various news outlets reported that the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the dining hall. The officer was reportedly punched in the face. Other corrections officers responded immediately and three of the other officers were also injured.

The four injured officers were taken to the hospital and the inmate was put into restrictive housing.

In late August, the prison was also on lockdown after what the DOC called “an investigation.” The was no official release as to why that lockdown had occurred.

In July, a corrections officer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater was killed after authorities said he was attacked by an inmate.

The Faribault prison consists of a medium-security facility and a minimum-security unit outside the secured perimeter. With a combined population of more than 2,000 adult men, it’s the largest facility in the state prison system.

The lockdown was lifted Monday night.
