Eyota, MN (KROC AM News) - Olmsted County deputies arrested an Eyota man Friday after he began “flipping out” while apparently under the influence of methamphetamine.

Family members fled the home and called 911 around 8:30 PM. Deputies were told 34-year-old Evan Mathis was still inside the home. He reportedly had a gun and had been “waving a hatchet” around while his children and other family members were present.

After deputies talked Mathis into surrendering, they found some meth in the home. They also found a handgun and shotgun and discovered he had been using a crossbow to shoot arrows through a door.

It was later learned Mathis had crashed his vehicle into a rural ditch earlier in the day. Deputies found some marijuana in his car and suspected he was under the influence of the drug. He is also expected to face charges in that case.
