Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The mid-January doldrums will be interrupted this weekend by a Rochester tradition.

The annual Eagles Cancer Telethon will begin its 63rd broadcast on KTTC-TV Saturday evening at 8 o’clock. The marathon broadcast to raise funds for cancer research will conclude at 4 p.m. Sunday after around 125 performances by area musicians, dancers and various other entertainment acts hit the stages set up in the Mayo Civic Center Auditorium.

The event is open to the public, with plenty of room to watch the performances in person, and even get a haircut or grab a bite to eat with the proceeds added to the fundraising total.

Last year, the final tally topped a million dollars for the second straight year. The money raised is shared by the Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota and the Hormel Institute.
