Country Music History September 23

The incomparable Ray Charles was born September 23, 1930 in Albany, Georgia.  Ray joined his friend, Willie Nelson, on the hit "Seven Spanish Angels".  One of my favorite songs is "Baby Grand" by Ray and Billy Joel.

Hank Williams final recording session took place this date in 1952 at Castle Studio in Nashville.  He recorded "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Take These Chains From My Heart" and "Kaw-liga".

"Above and Beyond", a remake of Buck Owens' song by Rodney Crowell, is #1 on the Billboard chart in 1989.
