It was a busy night across southeast Minnesota with the Section 1 volleyball quarterfinals in action.

On Cool 104, the # 6 seeded Chatfield Gophers found themselves in a tough battle with the #3 seededCotter Ramblers in the Section 1AA East Subsection quarterfinal, in which each team would trade big swings at the net and both teams would have to scramble to grab the point.

Cotter was able to get the sweep 3-0, but each set was tough with Cotter winning 25-18, 25-18 and 25-21.

The Ramblers got some excellent play from Lexi Hadaway and Isabelle Northrup en route to the big win that sent them on to the semifinals where they will take on St. Charles.

In the first set, the Gophers were able to build a 13-9 lead, but the Ramblers were able to get on a run to tie it up at 14 and eventually get the victory, which was a big boost to the squad. They were able to use that momentum to get the sweep.

The Gophers did not go down easy and made some fantastic plays at the net, diving for volleyball's to prevent points, but they just couldn't get enough offense going to get the win.

On 103.1 KFIL the #5 seeded Fillmore Central Falcons traveled to take on the #4 seeded Caledonia Warriors. It was a tough battle again that saw the Warriors get the win 3-1 over Fillmore Central.

The Falcons battled tough, but the Warriors offense was just too much to overcome. The two squads split in their meetings in the regular season, so expectations were high for a good match, and that is exactly what the audience got.

The win sent #4 Caledonia on to take on #1 seeded Mable-Canton Saturday at the Mayo Civic Center.
