On Thursday (March 30), Chris Stapleton revealed via a press release that he will be debuting new music during Sunday night's (April 2) 2017 ACM Awards, and during a pre-show interview with the Academy of Country Music, the singer-songwriter shared a few more details about his plans.

"Well, we got a request ... for some[thing] uptempo, so we handed in the most uptempo thing that we have," Stapleton says with a laugh. "So that's what we're gonna do: We're gonna get out there and rock out a little bit."

Stapleton first announced plans for his sophomore album in mid-February. Very little is known about the new record thus far, except that it is set for release on May 5 -- the two-year anniversary of the release of Stapleton’s freshman record, Traveller.

Stapleton is nominated three times at the 2017 ACM Awards: He's up for Male Vocalist of the Year, Video of the Year and Song of the Year. The awards show is set to take place at Las Vegas, Nev.'s T-Mobile Arena and air live on CBS beginning at 8PM ET.
