Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester-based Channel One Regional Food Bank is offering a helping hand to federal government workers and their families who are affected by the federal government shutdown.

Channel One says there are approximately 1,600 federal employees in SE Minnesota who are either currently furloughed or required to work without pay. The food bank says many of the affected employees may qualify for services at food shelves/pantries.

“This is a great example of why food shelves are so important. People have unexpected things happen in their lives that they can’t control and no one should have to worry about not having the food they need,” states Virginia Merritt, Executive Director at Channel One Regional Food Bank, “We are glad to be here to support our community.”

For further information about how services operate, how to sign up, and how to locate a food shelf/pantry please call 507-424-1707.
